Abstract
Objectives: This study was performed to estimate the economic effects of the dental panoramic radiography screening program from the year 2009 to 2018.
Methods: To evaluate the economic effects of the screening program, this study used cost-benefit analysis methodology. The direct costs of treatment for the dental panoramic radiography screening program, periodontal examination and periodontal treatment and indirect cost of transportation over a time period of 10 years were quantified in this cost analysis. Furthermore, prevention of tooth loss through this screening program for 40-year-old periodontitis patients was considered among the benefits.
Results: In triennial periodontal treatment type, total cost of the dental panoramic radiography screening program was 12,398,004,000∼13,683,802,000 Korean won and the total benefit was 35,135,260,000∼46,310,299,000 Korean won during this period of 10 years (Benefit/Cost ratio=2.83∼3.38).
Conclusions: Economic impact of the dental panoramic radiography screening program was effective for adults aged 40 years in Korea.
