Abstract
Objectives: This study was performed to estimate the economic effects of the dental panoramic radiography screening program from the year 2009 to 2018.
Methods: To evaluate the economic effects of the screening program, this study used cost-benefit analysis methodology. The direct costs of treatment for the dental panoramic radiography screening program, periodontal examination and periodontal treatment and indirect cost of transportation over a time period of 10 years were quantified in this cost analysis. Furthermore, prevention of tooth loss through this screening program for 40-year-old periodontitis patients was considered among the benefits.
Results: In triennial periodontal treatment type, total cost of the dental panoramic radiography screening program was 12,398,004,000¡13,683,802,000 Korean won and the total benefit was 35,135,260,000¡46,310,299,000 Korean won during this period of 10 years (Benefit/Cost ratio=2.83¡3.38).
Conclusions: Economic impact of the dental panoramic radiography screening program was effective for adults aged 40 years in Korea.
